Part 2: Saturday, March 7th, 10am-1pm
2501 Fawn Street, Norfolk, VA 23504
This course will introduce students to basic screenprinting technique and methodology. Starting with the generation of photo-positives using Photoshop or other programs. Production of a proper photo-positive is essential to screenprinting. Inkjet printers are the most common tool for creating a photo positive. Then focusing on proper exposure technique to create a screen matrix using emulsion. Preparation and reclamation of screens will be discussed and demonstrated. Students will learn ink preparation and modification using Pantone and other colors. And proper manual screen printing technique demonstrated including basic registration. Finally a brief discussion of editioning and tee shirts.
Students should be prepared for the first class by having a general idea of something they might want to print. A digital source image or original artwork that is simple, not multi-color is advisable. Small changes and basic design can be made in photoshop but limited class time will not allow for extensive design work. Students will be provided with enough paper to complete 5 prints or 5 T-shirts.
