Welcome to the open intaglio studio at Studio Shift's Fawn Street Studio! Printmakers of all ages and experience are welcome to join artist Christine Rucker as she shares her equipment and a selection of supplies. Draw or etch copper plates, use provided ink, and print on the tabletop press. Christine will also share her expertise with you in this casual style learning or just straight chillaxing environment.

Max 3 participants. $30 each session, registration required. Sessions are every last Friday of the month from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Meet the press!

Equipment and supplies provided:

  • Ink colors Payne's grey, black, teal, yellow (More will be available in future sessions)

  • Scribes and burnishers (for 2 people) 

  • Tarlatan and other wiping fabrics

  • Plate cleaning supplies

  • Vertical etching tank with ferric chloride

  • Etching for plate dimensions no larger than 10"x10"

  • Hard ground and soft ground (solid form) 

  • Hot plate

  • Files

  • Blankets and blotting paper

  • Scrapers

  • Plate oil

  • Whiting

  • Aquatint screen

Supplies not provided:

  • Printmaking paper

  • Plates

  • Sketch paper

  • Aquatint

  • Chine collé

  • Liquid hard and soft ground 

  • Glove 

  • Photogravure supplies

Christine Rucker is an artist and social worker based in Virginia Beach, VA. She graduated from Pratt Institute in painting and art history, and Virginia Commonwealth University in clinical social work. As an artist, she works as a bookmaker, designer, and mixed media printmaker.
